Payroll Transformation: SPS migrates GEA into the SAP Cloud
Nov 18, 2024
GEA Group AG, one of the largest system providers for food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries, is entering into a new partnership with SPS Germany GmbH to modernize its payroll processing in Germany and transfer it to the SAP Cloud. SPS prevailed over several competitors in a tender and impressed GEA with its many years of expertise and an ambitious project plan.

Until recently, GEA processed the payroll for around 10,000 employees and pensioners in Germany internally. The company was using an outdated SAP system for this purpose, the maintenance of which would have expired in the next few years. Therefore, the company was looking for an experienced partner for IT system outsourcing and payroll processing services. SPS impressed not only with its technical expertise, but also with an ambitious project plan that would ensure a successful transformation by the end of 2025.
“SPS understood the requirements for a modern payroll and time recording system and precisely identified our complex needs. This resulted in an optimal way to bring our system together with SPS into the SAP Cloud.” explains Ingo Schädler, Vice President HR Service Delivery at GEA.

An open and constructive exchange already took place during the tendering process. This enabled our employees, “the People behind your Payroll”, at SPS to precisely identify GEA's specific requirements and develop tailor-made solutions. The close cooperation and physical distance led to a rapid build-up of trust. “We are very proud to take over the payroll services for GEA. In addition to the trusting and solution-oriented cooperation between the teams on both sides right from the start, our future-oriented solution approach with the SAP Cloud was the key to success,” emphasizes Oliver Wibbe, Managing Director of SPS. In addition to payroll accounting, SPS also handles the complex time management, including access controls with individual regulations.
The partnership with GEA further strengthens SPS's position in the payroll sector. With more than 300 customers and over five million payslips per year, SPS has established itself as the market leader for SAP-based payroll solutions in the DACH region. “SPS has recorded impressive growth in the HR & Payroll business in recent years. Every year, we acquire a large number of new customers and thus expand our position as the leading specialist for the operation of SAP-based payroll solutions. Our focus on SAP S4/HANA, whether on-premises or in the cloud, is paying off and makes us the expert for innovative payroll solutions and the preferred partner for companies in the DACH region,” says Oliver Wibbe.
